ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
CURRICULUM AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

THE POSITION

The person selected for this at-will, licensed administrative position will be responsible and accountable for leading, managing, and supervising the curriculum, instruction, and support activities and functions of the Clark County School District.  The departments in this division include K-12 Literacy; K-12 Math, Science, and Instructional Technology; Career and Technical Education; Guidance and Counseling; Student Athletics and Activities; Fine Arts; Physical Education; and Safe and Drug-Free Schools.  In fulfilling the goals and mission of the Curriculum and Professional Development Division, the person selected for this position will provide vision, leadership, and direction to approximately 150 administrators, licensed employees and project facilitators, and support staff employees within the division.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Professional Development, is directly responsible to the Deputy Superintendent of Instruction, Clark County School District.  The essential functions of the position include the following:    

  1. Provides leadership District-wide for K-12 instruction, curriculum, student support activities, and professional development initiatives and programs.
  2. Understand and utilize data collection and analysis for planning, including the use of technology systems. 
  3. Provide programming and support for increasing student achievement.
  4. Implement curricular design, standards, and benchmarks that support student achievement of grade-level standards.
  5. Lead District-wide changes in policies to enhance services for students.
  6. Develop and implement division/department policies and procedures.
  7. Work with federal, state, service area, and school personnel in developing and implementing programs.
  8. Supervise and evaluate programs and staff.
  9. Interacte with District and service area administration, schools, parents, and community-based agencies.
  10. Overseee the development and administration of the annual budget for the division.
  11. Serve as a District representative and assume responsibility at local, state, and national meetings, governmental hearings, and events pertaining to areas within the division. 
  12. Write, acquire, and implement grants.
  13. Provide technical expertise and assistance to others both throughout and outside the District.
  14. Oversee personnel, division operations, and budgeting, and encourage parent and community involvement in District-level curriculum, instruction, and support activities, processes, and initiatives.
  15. Conduct policy analysis and policy development related to curriculum and professional development and student support activities.
  16. Communicate and implement applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  17. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  18. Exemplify integrity, candor, and high ethical conduct.
  19. Implement the District’s vision of continuous review and improvement of processes and procedures throughout the division.
  20. Implement the District’s vision of exceptional customer service in support of student achievement throughout the division.
  21. Establish and maintain collaboration with other agencies that provide professional development services for the District.
  22. Develop and implement activities with higher education officials to expand and maintain educational programs.
  23. Serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet in establishing program goals and direction in accordance with the District’s policies, regulations, procedures, and standards.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Master’s Degree in education from an accredited college or university.
  2. Hold or be able to acquire appropriate Nevada school administrative license.
  3. Demonstrated five (5) years of successful licensed teaching experience and four (4) years as a contracted administrator in an accredited K-12 public or private school district.

SALARY

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a twelve-month position with placement on Range 46 ($89,304 - $119,604) of the Unified Administrative Salary Schedule.  Placement will be made in accordance with Clark County School District Regulation 4291 (Placement and Advancement on the Unified Administrative Salary Schedule). 

TERMS/SELECTION PROCEDURES

The position is an “at-will” position.  The person selected for the position serves at the will of the superintendent and may be returned to his/her post-probationary status in accordance with Article 16 of the Agreement negotiated between the Clark County School District and the Clark County Association of School Administrators and Professional-Technical Employees.

This position is “at-will” and not subject to Clark County School District Administrative Regulation 4111: Administrative Appointment.  The Superintendent or designee will conduct the screening process.
